Botox

Botox® is a brand name for the prescription medication Botulinum Toxin Type A, which has a wide range of medical and aesthetic uses; notably as an anti-wrinkle treatment. There are many brands of Botulinum under several different names, however, at Francis Clinic we only use Botox® Allergan for our anti-wrinkle treatment.

As an anti-wrinkle treatment, Botox® Cosmetic is injected into certain muscles in order to block the signal between the nerves to the muscle and thus reduce muscle movement and associated wrinkling of the skin. It’s fair to say Botox treatments have received bad press over the years due to high profile celebrities who have a ‘frozen look’, but this outcome is not a normal or expected result of well administered anti-wrinkle treatments. This is the likely outcome of more product being administered than what is needed.

If you are treated for lines and wrinkles at Francis Clinic, your face will continue to have a full range of motion. We can also treat wrinkles in two sittings by offering a ‘top up’ appointment (for a small charge) if you have not gained your desired look the first time, this ensures our patients are not given too much product.

Botox® is used to treat dynamic wrinkles on the face - those wrinkles that are created through natural facial movement. Static lines are treated with dermal filler. Areas improved by Botox® are forehead lines, frown lines between the brows and wrinkles around the eyes caused by smiling. At Francis clinic we also offer eyebrow lifts using Botox®.

Unlike dermal fillers, Botox® is not effective immediately. It can take between 2-14 days to become noticeable. The first few treatments of Botox® last roughly 4 months, however after the third or fourth dose the gap between treatments increases to 9-11 months.

Underarm Botox can be used to treat excessive sweating. Botox has been shown to result in an 82-87% decrease in sweating.
